Sheetalahar in Rautahat: Life in poor slums is miserable

Main News Image

Rautahat The life of Rautahat has become very difficult due to the cold wave and extreme cold that has been going on for the past few days. The daily life of common people has been affected due to the cold wind blowing along with the heavy rain, especially in the poor Dalit slums.

Dalit settlements of Musahar, Chamar and Dom communities in various local levels here have been affected the most by the cold. Due to the lack of straw huts, lack of warm clothes and lack of sufficient food, the condition of the elderly, children and pregnant women in those slums has become miserable.

Most of the families do not have warm clothes to wear and lie down, so they are forced to spend the night by laying straw and keeping the fire burning all night. So far, no one has come to the village for relief this winter, said local Chandra Majhi. He says that now he spends the day under the hood to avoid the winter. The local leaders of Chandrapur have demanded that blankets, firewood and nutritious food should be arranged immediately for the poor as the cold is likely to increase. Although the local administration and municipalities have distributed firewood in some places, it is not enough.
