Main News Image

Kathmandu. On the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced a two-day ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8 to 9. Russian President Vladimir Putin declared this ceasefire for May 8–9, 2026, in honor of the celebration of the Soviet people’s victory in the World War. He expressed hope that the Ukrainian side would also follow this example.

However, the statement also warned that if the Kyiv administration attempts to carry out any criminal act with the aim of disrupting the anniversary celebrations of the victory, the Russian armed forces will launch a retaliatory attack in the center of Kyiv.
