Qatar hold off Switzerland to claim historic first World Cup point

Kathmandu. In Santa Clara America FIFA World Cup 2026 Group 'B' match, Qatar drew 1-1 with Switzerland by scoring at the last moment. With this, Qatar has managed to score points for the first time in the history of the World Cup. Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute of the match at Levi's Stadium. Striker Brill Mbolo successfully converted the penalty after Qatari goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada fouled Remo Freyler to give the team a 1-0 lead.

Throughout the first half, Switzerland kept the pressure on the game. Qatar created some opportunities but could not score. The Swiss team had many opportunities for the second goal, but failed to capitalize on them. Towards the end of the game, Switzerland made the victory seem certain. But Qatar made a dramatic comeback in injury time. The cross from the left wing was converted into a goal by captain Bualem Khoukhi with his head. Later, FIFA recognized the goal as a suicide goal by Swiss defender Miro Muheim.
