Preparation underway for the President to promulgate the returned ordinance today

Kathmandu. The Office of the President is preparing to promulgate today itself the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures) First Amendment Ordinance, 2083. It is understood that the ordinance is being introduced on the government’s recommendation with the aim of making the appointment process for office-bearers of constitutional bodies more convenient and effective.
Earlier, although the government had recommended issuance of the same ordinance, President Ramchandra Paudel had returned it on Sunday, asking for reconsideration. Raising a key concern over the interpretation of the majority required in the Council’s decision-making process, the President returned the ordinance to the government for reconsideration.
