Preparation to ensure electricity supply from India from Kartik

Kathmandu. The Nepal Electricity Authority has said that it has completed preparations to ensure electricity supply from India from next Kartik. According to the authority, many projects are of run-of-the-river type and there is a natural decline in production as river flow dependence and discharge decrease. Due to the addition of many projects this year as well, there is a need to ensure supply from India in winter.

The Electricity Authority has given 21 days time to pay the arrears to the customers on October 12 and 13 and requested them to pay by October 2. In addition, the board of directors has also arranged that the arrears can be paid in 28 installments. Authority spokesperson Rajan Dhakal also disclosed the reasons for the delay in the construction of the transmission line. The main reasons are procedural challenges related to forest and tree cutting, local social constraints and difficult geographical conditions. Most of the projects are in the hilly areas, while the consumption centers are in the south, so the construction of the north-south transmission line is challenging, he said.

The electricity authority has clarified that the current tripping or service disruption is not load shedding, Dhakal clarified. The line was interrupted for some time due to technical reasons and there was no structural damage to the system. It has been mentioned that the authority is constantly trying to provide reliable service to the customers and is ready to improve where there are deficiencies.
