Paddy planting is slow due to low rainfall, only 11.33 percent of planting has been completed across the country

Kathmandu. Due to the lack of rain as expected, the pace of rice planting across the country has been slow this year. According to the latest data of the Department of Agriculture, only 11.33 percent of paddy planting has been completed across the country till June 12, which is 4.27 percentage points less than the same period last year.
Last year, till June 13, 15.6 percent of paddy planting was completed. According to the Department, although a total of 13 lakh 81 thousand 488 hectares of paddy is cultivated across the country, only 1 lakh 56 thousand 583.67 hectares of land have been planted so far.
State-wise, Karnali province has the highest 22.8 percent paddy planting. After that 20.9 percent in Lumbini, 12.7 percent in Gandaki, 12.6 percent in Bagmati, 9.3 percent in Far West, 8.3 percent in Koshi and only 5 percent in Madhesh province. The least progress has been seen in Madhesh province.
