One hundred and seventy five drivers of "ride sharing" were punished

Kathmandu. 175 drivers involved in ride-sharing services have been arrested under a special 'checking' campaign conducted by the traffic police to control the increasing traffic pressure, disorderly driving and rule violations in Kathmandu Valley. According to the Valley Traffic Police Office, action was taken after the driver was found to be operating a vehicle contrary to prevailing laws during the monitoring conducted in various busy areas of the valley.

Recently, the use of ride sharing services in the valley has been increasing rapidly. Along with this, there is an increase in the trend of operating services illegally, transporting passengers without meeting the standards and ignoring traffic rules, a special checking campaign has been conducted to control the situation, informed Nareshraj Subedi, spokesman of the Valley Traffic Police Office and Superintendent of Police.

According to him, most of the drivers who were prosecuted were operating the service offline without the permission of the online platform. In addition, picking and dropping passengers at random places, poor technical condition of vehicles, lack of necessary documents and violation of traffic rules have also been found.

Head of the Valley Traffic Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police Navraj Adhikari said that for the operation of ride sharing services, it is mandatory to get permission from the relevant agencies, regular maintenance of the vehicle, the driver to carry necessary documents and follow the prescribed rules.
