New year 2026 begins

Main News Image

Kathmandu. According to the Gregorian calendar, the new year of AD 2026 has started from today. It is called the Gregorian calendar because the priest Gregorian started it from the year Jesus Christ was born. On the occasion of New Year 2026, those who observe this festival according to the calendar celebrate by exchanging wishes with each other.

It is said that AD was built based on the Gregorian calendar based on solar months only. Those who criticize it have also said that the calendar is not scientific on the same basis. Dr. Shastradatta Pant, who is engaged in the study of various samvats, said that even though it is not as scientific as the science that started from the Vedic period due to the coordination of the solar month and the lunar month, the influence of the AD year is becoming global.

A year is 365 days, six hours, forty-nine minutes, and six seconds, but units of hours, minutes, and seconds smaller than days are not mentioned because they affect the calculation. For its management, an arrangement has been made for three years in the calendar which is calculated on the basis of Visanka.

Dr. Pant said that despite trying to manage it as a 'lippier' in the calendar according to AD, there was no unanimity in the western countries.
