Nepal's public debt for the first time reached 30 trillion, 45.59 percent of GDP!
Kathmandu. The total public debt of Nepal has exceeded 30 trillion rupees for the first time. According to the Public Debt Management Office, the total public debt of the government has reached Rs. This is 45.59 percent of GDP.
By the end of June of the last financial year 2082-83, the public debt of the government was 29 trillion 81 billion 70 million 28 lakh rupees. Since then, in three months, the government has received a new loan worth Rs. During this period, 77 billion 74 crore 78 lakh rupees have been spent on repayment of old debt.
According to the office, due to the change in the foreign exchange rate during this period, the foreign debt liability decreased by 18 billion 164 million rupees. When adjusting the effect of new loans, repayment of principal and exchange rate, it appears that the public debt has increased by 27 billion 41 crore 38 lakh rupees compared to the end of June.
Out of the total public debt, the share of foreign debt is 53.13 percent and the share of domestic debt is 46.87 percent. In proportion to GDP, domestic debt is 21.37 percent and foreign debt is 24.22 percent. This shows that the share of external sources in Nepal's public debt is still high.
