Nawalpur's Daune Devi Temple is becoming a center of religious tourism
Nawalparasi Daune Devi Temple located in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 of Nawalpur before Bardghat Susta of Nawalparasi is becoming known as an important place from religious, historical and tourist point of view. Located on the top of Daunne Danda near the East-West Highway, the number of visitors has been increasing in recent times. To reach the temple, which is about 3,300 feet above sea level, one has to travel uphill from Daunne Bazaar for about half an hour. Devotees come from different districts of the country because of the belief that their wishes will be fulfilled when worshiping here. Since it is a religious place near the Indian border, devotees from India also come here.
According to local people, there is a legend that the religious importance of this area has been there since the time of King Manimukunda Sen of Palpa. That is why Downne Devi Temple is known as a historical temple, said Harihar Subedi, Chairman of Downne Devi Temple Management Committee. A big fair is held here especially on the occasion of Badadasain, Chaitedsain, Sripanchami and other festivals. President Subedi said that the Lower Devi temple is worshiped as Shaktipeeth. Subedi said that locals also come to the temple to perform weddings and vows.
There are also religious places like Lakshminarayan Temple, Shivalaya, Gayatri Temple, Gumba in this area. Chairman Subedi informed that the Downne Devi Temple Management Committee is also running a cowshed. He said that devotees flock here on public holidays. "There is a large crowd of devotees here during Dasain, while at other times on public holidays, significant number of devotees come here", said President Subedi.
He says that people come here not only for religious pilgrimage but also for sightseeing as it is a naturally beautiful place. According to President Subedi, Daunne Devi Temple has also been listed among the major tourist destinations of the province announced by the Gandaki provincial government. But he said that not much interest was given to the development of the temple from the state level.
