According to Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar Basnet, Thapa won by a very wide margin. He got a total of 58 thousand 814 votes and became the winner
His nearest competitor Sushil Gurung of Nepali Congress got only 8,435 votes. The difference between Thapa and Gurung is 50 thousand 379. Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Vasudev Ghimire has received 8,275 votes, while Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RDP) candidate Gaurav Bohra has received 7,789 votes.
