Kathmandu. James Watson, one of the scientists who discovered the structure of DNA, has died. He was 97 years old. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has confirmed Watson's death, according to the BBC. Watson worked and researched there for many decades.
American scientist Watson was awarded the Nobel Prize. The discovery of DNA structure is considered one of the greatest scientific achievements of the 20th century. Together with British scientist Francis Crick, he identified the double-helix structure of DNA in 1953. This paved the way for rapid progress in molecular biology.
Watson also made racist and sexist comments. Which seriously damaged his reputation. In a TV show, he claimed that gin was responsible for the difference in average IQ between black and white people.
