Ishwar Pokharel fighting with Oli with the support of Vidya
Kathmandu. The eleventh convention of CPN-UML is being held in Kathmandu from November 27 to 29. With less than a month left for the convention, preparations have been intensified. Along with the preparations for the convention, internal plans for leadership are also being made among the leaders. Even though KP Oli made policy decisions with a plan to repeat himself as president, Oli will not be the unopposed president.
Senior Vice President Ishwar Pokharel is preparing to challenge Oli for the presidency. With the support of former President and former Vice President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Ishwar has prepared to challenge Oli with a panel. The Bhandari-Pokharel side is hoping to bring unexpected results from the convention. Bhandari is dissatisfied with Oli after her renewed membership was suspended.
Bhandari tried to return to politics by renewing her membership in UML saying that Oli was abandoning the ideas and programs put forward by Madan Bhandari. However, Oli decided to stop the membership of Bhandari, which had been renewed for the second year last July. This is the reason why Bhandari is broken. For this reason, even though Ishwar Pokharel is preparing to fight with Oli in the upcoming convention, an official said that the competition for the chairmanship will be between Oli and Bhandari.
UML currently has 18 people in the secretariat. Among them, Vice President Yuvraj Gyawali, Ashtalakshmi Shakya and Surendra Pandey and Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai and Gokarn Bista have stood in favor of Pokharel. Vice Presidents Vishnu Paudel, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Deputy General Secretary Prithvisubba Gurung, Secretary Raghuveer Mahaseth and Chavi Lal Vishwakarma have not decided where to stand.
