Interim order staying the decision to use only English language on embossed number plates
Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has issued an interim order not to immediately implement the government's decision to use only English language on embossed number plates used in vehicles. The joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Mahesh Sharma Paudel has ordered not to implement the said decision for the time being.
Advocate Ram Bahadur Raut Matridas filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Transport under the Lumbini Provincial Government, the Department of Transport Management and the Decatur Tiger Company Nepal as opponents.
In the writ petition, it is claimed that the decision to replace the Devanagari script and use only English language is against the constitution and prevailing laws.
