Main News Image

let's break Indonesia has set a goal to completely stop the import of diesel from 2026 with the aim of strengthening energy security. The government is rapidly expanding the biodiesel program and increasing domestic oil refining capacity, which will reduce dependence on foreign fuels.

The new 'B(50) biodiesel' blend that will be implemented across the country is the mainstay of this plan and it is targeted to start using it from 2026. According to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, the B(50) program and the increase in the capacity of oil refineries will lead Indonesia to stop importing diesel.

After the expansion of Balikpapan Refinery, its daily processing capacity will reach 360,000 barrels, which is expected to increase domestic production and bring about a long-term reduction in diesel imports. Indonesia has long been dependent on imported diesel for transportation, industrial operations and power generation. But due to rising world market prices and import costs, the government has emphasized on developing domestic alternatives. Biodiesel produced from palm oil has contributed significantly to increasing farmers' incomes, expanding industries and diversifying the energy mix.
