Government's crackdown on cooking oil, ban on reusing old utensils to misleading advertisements

Kathmandu. Keeping in mind the quality, purity and health safety of the consumers of edible oil sold in the Nepali market, the government has prepared to tighten production, packaging and sales distribution. The Nepal Quality and Weights and Measures Department under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply has prepared the final draft of new quality standards for mustard, soybean and sunflower oil.

In the proposed standard, edible oil has been clearly classified into edible oil and can be used only after further processing. Provisions have also been made to prohibit the sale of non-edible oil in retail packets targeted at consumers.
