Gore was jailed for another 10 years, but organized crime was not confirmed in the gold scandal
Morang. The Biratnagar High Court has sentenced Chudamani Upreti, also known as 'Gore', the main accused in the gruesome murder case of Sanam Shakya in Urlabari, Morang, to an additional 10 years in prison. However, in the much-discussed 38 quintal gold smuggling case, the court ruled that organized crime cannot be confirmed. A joint bench of Judges Mahendranath Upadhyay and Prakash Chandra Adhikari partially overturned the decision of the District Court Morang and found the victim guilty of kidnapping and hostage-taking. Along with this, the victim has to serve an additional 10 years of imprisonment in addition to the 20 years of life imprisonment he got in the case of duty killing.
Although the district court found the victim guilty in the murder case, the government side appealed saying that the punishment was not imposed on the kidnapping and body hostage charges. After continuous hearings since January 20, the High Court partially accepted the government's claim.
The High Court reduced the sentence of Narendra Karki, Mohan Kafle and Bhojraj Bhandari, who were sentenced to 20 years each by the district court, to 10 years each.
