Galchai-Sanfrubesi road to be opened in two weeks, Kolpukhola bridge damaged by floods
The Kathmandu. Due to the flood, the Kolpukhola bridge connecting Dhading and Nuwakot has been damaged. Director of the Department of Roads, Dr. According to Vijay Jaisi, the bridge collapsed after excessive pressure was exerted on the bridge's bearings due to flood flow. Director General Jaisi informed that the bridge with a capacity of 600 tons was lifted and floated.
The Kolpukhola Bridge is a 40-meter long pre-stressed bridge. He informed that after the floodwaters exerted excessive force on the bearings on the upper part of the bridge, the bridge rose at a high height on one side and a low height on the other side. He says that the bridge has to sit on its bearings but is currently sitting on the stopper. He said that due to this reason the bridge could not bear the load as per the design.
According to him, preparations are being made to immediately put the bridge in the right place by placing jacks on all the four sides. He informed that for this, Galchhi-Betrawati Road Planning is looking for the necessary technical team in coordination with the contractor. The department is preparing to allow only light vehicles to operate for the time being until the bridge is repaired.
