EU imposes new economic sanctions against Russia
Kathmandu. The European Union EU has decided on Friday not to allow the assets of the Russian Central Bank to return to Russia in any way. The move was implemented immediately in view of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The statement issued by the association states, "This decision has been made with immediate effect to reduce the negative impact on the economy of the association." According to the decision, the assets of the Russian Central Bank are completely restricted.
It also covers transactions involving any person, organization or entity acting on behalf of or at the direction of a Russian bank. European Council President Antonio Costa wrote on social media, "At the October Council meeting, a commitment was made to protect Russian assets, and Friday's decision fulfills that commitment. Although this step is temporary, the statement states that sanctions will continue if providing financial or other resources to Russia for the war with Ukraine could affect the Union's economy."
According to this decision, property worth about 200,000 million euros will be locked. Of this, about one hundred and ninety thousand million Euros is secured in Euroclear, a financial institution located in Belgium.
