Elections 71 days left: Parties preparing a closed list towards proportionality
Kathmandu. As the date of the election of members of the House of Representatives is approaching, the political parties have intensified their internal preparations. The Election Commission has proceeded with the work of the National Assembly and the House of Representatives member elections simultaneously. The commission has already appointed the district judge as the election officer for the National Assembly member election to be held on January 11. Likewise, as the deadline for submission of the closed list of candidates for the House of Representatives election is approaching, the political parties have intensified their internal preparations.
The political parties in the dissolved House of Representatives and all the newly registered parties are conducting necessary political discussions and preparations to determine the proportional list. Only on Tuesday, President Ramchandra Paudel held discussions with Prime Minister Sushila Karki, top leaders of the three major political parties. Due to the fact that the government has made the necessary preparations for the elections, the Commission has intensified the preparations, and the atmosphere is gradually improving.
According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, 93 parties have applied to be in the proportional list for the election of the House of Representatives. The Commission has prepared a work schedule for the political parties to participate in the proportional election system.
