Election Commission instructions to take action against Setopati.com
Kathmandu. The Election Commission has written to the Press Council to proceed with the process of taking action against Setopati Online, judging that the election code of conduct has been violated. According to the commission, some of the news published by Setopati during the election period have violated the provisions of the code of conduct. The Commission has objected to the news published targeting the Chitwan-3 constituency titled 'Sovita Gautam will win the election in Chitwan-3, Renu Dahal second'.
In the letter sent by the commission, it is mentioned that conducting polls related to vote results, publicizing or publishing the results from the date of registration of nomination of candidates until the end of voting is against the code of conduct. In addition, it has been reminded that news content cannot be published or broadcast in favor or against anyone.
Considering that the material has been published in violation of Clause B of Section 4 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 and Clause B of Subsection 1 of Section 25, the Commission has requested the Press Council to take necessary action against Setopati.
