Egg price increased: Rs. 25 per egg for consumers, farmers still at a loss
Chitwan. As the production of eggs decreases with the summer season, the price has increased. Nepal Layers Poultry Association has increased the support price of eggs. According to the association, a farm rate of Rs 515 per crate of 930 eggs for large eggs and Rs 485 for medium eggs has been fixed. According to Madan Pokharel, secretary of the association, the consumer price has been fixed at Rs 25 per unit. Earlier, large eggs were fixed at Rs 485 and medium eggs at Rs 435, he said.
Vinod Pokharel, President of Nepal Layers Poultry Breeders' Association, said that due to the two-day holiday, the consumption will increase due to the increase in tourists, as well as the decrease in egg production due to summer, the demand will increase and the price will increase. He said, "There is a shortage of manpower when farmers migrate from the poultry farming profession. Chickens have died due to various diseases, which has reduced egg production."
Stating that the cost price of eggs is 19 rupees 12 paisa per egg, Chairman Pokharel said that the farmers have not yet been able to get the cost price. He informed that the Nepal Layers Poultry Association is issuing support prices based on the prices issued by various agricultural farms producing eggs.
