Main News Image

Kathmandu. Education Minister Mahaveer Pun has said that there have been complaints that teachers, professors and staff are involved in political activities contrary to professional dignity and that such activities are degrading the quality of education. Minister Pun has said that those involved in political activities are subject to necessary action according to prevailing laws, up to dismissal from the post if necessary.

Minister Pun, while issuing a notice on Sunday, has clarified that the current professional laws only give the right to raise voice to the people working in any service regarding their professional rights and interests but do not give them the right to participate in other political activities. "We would like to draw attention to the fact that there is a provision for legal action up to the possibility of dismissal from the post if found involved in political activities," said Pun.

He has informed that the Ministry has decided not to recognize the various associations of teachers, professors and employees formed as fraternal and benevolent organizations of the party. Respecting the constitutional rights of teachers and employees, it has also asked to reorganize all active associations including the teachers' federation with legal arrangements to make them non-political in nature, independent and professional in nature.
