Eastern border closed for 72 hours due to Indian elections
Kathmandu. The eastern border has been closed for 72 hours from Monday evening in view of the assembly elections in the West Bengal province of India.
Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Jhapa, informed that the Darjeeling District Administration Office of India has completely closed the movement of people and vehicles from Panitanki border crossing with Kankarvitta from 6:00 PM on Monday until the end of voting on May 10.
Assembly elections are going to be held in West Bengal on May 10. In the past, both Nepal and India had agreed to stop traffic at the border before the elections.
