Death toll from earthquake in Venezuela exceeds 5,000
Kathmandu. The death toll from two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela last month has exceeded five thousand. Officials said on Saturday that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has provided 346 million US dollars for reconstruction.
Last June 24, when two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 occurred within one minute, La Guaira, a coastal state north of the capital Caracas, was the most affected. According to George Rodriguez, head of the National Assembly, five thousand and sixty-nine people have died in the earthquake so far. Most of the deceased are residents of coastal areas.
