Day 2 of Traffic Week: Safety message to around 20,000 road users in the Valley
Kathmandu. Under the 'Accident Reduction Special Campaign and Traffic Week 2082', which is being conducted with the priority of reducing road accidents, extensive awareness activities have been conducted in Kathmandu Valley on the second day. About 19 thousand 923 road users have directly benefited from the campaign.
The traffic police has conveyed the message of safe road use by conducting practical exercises on the use of zebra crossings, bridges and subways, focusing on passengers, pedestrians and drivers. According to the traffic police office, 5,301 passengers and pedestrians were trained to cross the road safely.
Emphasizing the improvement of driver's health and behavior on the road, 319 drivers were given a one-day eye test, 211 drivers were interacted with teacups, 42 tipper drivers were given accident reduction training and 83 traffic volunteers were mobilized.
Similarly, a two-minute awareness program was conducted with 4 thousand 835 drivers and operators, while 2 thousand 234 two-wheeler and 2 thousand 937 four-wheeler drivers were given special awareness. According to the police, 2 thousand 808 road users were informed about traffic rules and safety only during the night time.
In order to make road safety more effective, road furniture has been cleaned at 270 places, information about pick and drop management has been given to 135 vehicles, pamphlets have been distributed to 10 thousand 610 people and 4 thousand 514 traffic awareness stickers have been pasted.
According to Traffic Police Office Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, Traffic Week is being conducted with the aim of developing safe road manners and reducing the loss of life while accepting the reality that minor negligence can lead to major accidents.
