Chronic patients should take more precautions to avoid flu: Dr. Ghimire
Kathmandu. As the winter progresses, the risk of influenza has increased. Flu is an infectious disease caused by the influenza virus. People of all ages can get the flu because this virus is more active in the winter months. According to General Physician Dr. Parashuram Ghimire, especially when the cold starts increasing, respiratory problems start appearing more. In which there is a high possibility of infection in the chest, mouth, nose and lungs.
The virus can spread if the droplets released when a person with flu gets into the nose or mouth of a close person when they speak, cough or sneeze. They can also go to the lungs through quick breathing. You can also get the flu by touching your mouth or nose after touching a surface that has the virus on it. Dr. Ghimire says that although most of the people with flu do not need antiviral drugs, the chronically ill, pregnant, elderly and those with reduced immunity are at higher risk and complicate the situation, so such people should be under the supervision of health workers.
"Those who are at risk, especially those who are chronically ill, those who have diseases such as diabetes, pressure, TB, etc., and those who have diseases that reduce immunity, are more likely to get other infections, including the flu," he says. People with the flu may experience symptoms such as headache, fever, cough, sore throat, joint and muscle pain, nasal congestion, and fatigue, but not everyone with the flu may have a fever.
According to doctors, to prevent this, keep a physical distance from sick people, stay at home when sick as much as possible, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, occasionally wash your hands with soap and water or use sanitizer, do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth, be physically active and eat plenty of fluids and nutritious food. According to General Physician Dr. Parashuram Ghimire, one should wear warm clothes and stay in a warm place to avoid flu.
"One should drink plenty of water or eat plenty of food as much as possible. One should pay attention to the use of masks, a healthy diet, pneumonia and flu vaccines are available. That can also be avoided", says Dr. Ghimire.
