Bhotekoshi flood killed more than 1200, more than 4000 are still missing, rescue and search continues
Kathmandu. Search, rescue and relief work has been intensified in the affected areas after the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi river. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 11,993 people have been safely rescued by Wednesday evening, while 4,216 people are still without contact. The death toll due to floods has reached 1,204.
According to Shanti Mahat, spokesperson of the authority, a total of 21,314 security personnel from all three security agencies have been deployed in the field for search and rescue.
Out of which, nine thousand 199 personnel of Nepal Army, seven thousand 912 of Nepal Police and four thousand 203 personnel of Armed Police Force have been mobilized. Due to damaged roads and physical structures, rescue work ha become very challenging in river banks, landslide areas and flood affected settlements.
Districts like Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Tanahun and Chitwan have been more affected by the floods.
