A clean and fearless election is a must, the morale of security personnel is high
Kathmandu. National Human Rights Commission Chairman Tap Bahadur Magar has said that clean, fair and fearless elections are a necessary condition for the stability of democracy. Speaking at an interaction program on 'Elections and the Role of Stakeholders for the Stability of Democracy' held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he emphasized that there should be an environment where voters can freely choose their representatives without any fear or intimidation.
Chairman Magar mentioned that there is a risk of confusing the voters with misleading information spread through social media and said that stakeholders should be careful to control it. Voters should be able to elect competent and qualified people, but they should not be influenced by misinformation, he said.
Targeting the questions raised about the violation of the election code of conduct and actions, President Magar opined that the candidates themselves should be more responsible. He made it clear that if the candidates who promised to go to the government, eliminate corruption and maintain good governance do not follow the code of conduct, their commitment will be meaningless, he clarified.
