76 days left for elections: Amendment to the law for inclusive representation on the basis of population

Kathmandu. The government has made a legal provision for determining the percentage based on the population in the proportional election system. For that, the Council of Ministers has passed an ordinance and submitted it to the President for issuance. According to the provisions in the constituencies of the members of the House of Representatives, legal arrangements are being made through an ordinance to determine the percentage for the Dalit, tribal, tribal, Khas Arya, Madhesi, Tharu and Muslim groups.


The meeng of the Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to amend the Election Act to match the percentage of different clusters according to the final report of the National Census, 2078.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, an ordinance has been brought to amend the schedule of the Members of the House of Representatives Act, 2074 according to the new data of the population of Dalit, tribal, tribal, Khas Arya, Madhesi, Tharu and Muslim communities.

Based on the discussion held in the Election Commission on 25th of November, a six-member committee was formed under the coordination of Subhash Kumar Bhattarai, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, with representatives from the Election Commission, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and the National Statistics Office.
