7.1 magnitude earthquake hits Japan's Kumamoto prefecture, death toll rises to 13

Kathmandu. The death toll from the 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Japan's Kumamoto region has reached 13. Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaichi said on Wednesday that the earthquake has caused widespread damage and said that the rescue and relief work has been intensified.

According to information given by Prime Minister Takaichi through social network X, 13 people have been confirmed dead in the earthquake as of 10:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday. She said that an investigation is being conducted to determine whether some of the deaths were due to earthquake-related causes or not.
